THE FARM

Located on a 76-acre, biodynamic farm in Cottage Grove, Oregon, North Star offers a rich educational environment where forests, creeks, wetlands, and farmland become the canvas for project- based learning.

Guided by the metaphor of the North Star, we help each child discover their unique learning path. Our program blends academic growth with real-world skills, preparing young people to be resilient, empathetic, and engaged stewards of their communities and their ecosystem.

At North Star Cooperative, your child is more than a student, they're a valued contributor, a curious explorer, and a capable human being. We’re here to support families who want learning that reflects life in the Southern Willamette Valley.

What is a cooperative Microschool?

A Microschool is a small, multi-family learning community that emphasizes strong relationships and individualized learning. Often described as “modern one-room schoolhouses,” microschools offer a low student-to-teacher ratio with no more than eight students per teacher—allowing educators to truly support each child’s unique learning style and interests. As a Cooperative, parents take an active role in the learning environment by facilitating projects, leading workshops, supporting field trips, and sharing their own skills. This co-created model reflects our belief that learning is most meaningful when rooted in shared purpose and collective engagement.
